Authentic Kids Michael Thomas Jersey Five quarterbacks played for Cleveland in 2016; Kessler is the only one to return this season. A solid rookie campaign — excepting that time he lateraled the ball out of his own end zone — put him in pole position to lead a rebuilding Browns team in 2017. A pair of spring additions have now passed him for playing time. Brock Osweiler was so toxic the Texans had to give up a second-round pick just to ship him to Cleveland, but early returns on him have been … not terrible. Second-round pick DeShone Kizer has been even better, showing out in preseason games and looking like a boom-or-bust big-play threat in the pocket.

The rookie started the team’s third preseason game, and despite a 6-18, 93-yard, one-interception performance, still managed to earn Hue Jackson’s vote of confidence to start in Week 1. Osweiler — who could be trade bait — didn’t even take the field, ceding snaps to 2016 practice squad fodder Kevin Hogan.
That stuff all gets left out, because it doesn’t make him look like a genius.
(We’re also totally excluding the Falcons from any part of this narrative at all. For all we know, poor Dan Quinn had 55 different two-point conversion plays drawn up for this game. Reams of two-point conversion plays. A library of them.)
I know it’s silly. Of course it’s silly. It’s sports. None of this really matters, like, at all. But that’s what’s so helpful about a film like this. We can see how outcome shapes narrative in a more-or-less stakes-free environment. Belichick’s two-point-play fixation appears genius, and it’s something Patriots fans will tell their grandkids about. And if they had lost, no one would give a shit.
